The Netflix Original Series Hemlock Grove, a riveting and eerie mystery from executive producer Eli Roth and based on Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name, will return with a second season next year. Seasoned showrunner Charles H. (Chic) Eglee (“The Walking Dead,” “Dexter,” “The Shield”) joins the popular series as executive producer in season two.
“The worldwide fan response to ‘Hemlock Grove’ was phenomenal,” said Executive Producer Eli Roth. “Netflix members loved the potent combination of sexy monsters, mystery, and the dark family soap opera that ended with a huge twist, leaving audiences worldwide totally shocked. Season One was just a warm up for what we have in store for season two. Get ready to be scared in ways you never expected.”
“In its first season, Eli, Brian, Lee and the team did an incredible job of introducing viewers to a unique world of memorable characters,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix. “Chic’s addition to the show, and his experience on such fan favorites as ‘The Shield,’ ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Dexter,’ will heighten the intensity of the mystery that grips ‘Hemlock Grove.’”
“We are thrilled to be working with Netflix on the second season of ‘Hemlock Grove,’ a show that the audience has enthusiastically embraced,” commented Katie O’Connell, CEO of Gaumont International Television.
The series stars Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgård, Landon Liboiron, Freya Tingley, and Dougray Scott. The second season will consist of 10 episodes that will go into production later this year. The sophomore season of Hemlock Grove will premiere in 2014.

If you’ve never heard of Kandyse McClure, you may want to talk to your friends who watch(ed) the 2004 sci-fi series “Battlestar Galactica.” The actress played the ever-optimistic Officer Anastasia “Dee” Dualla, who irked the ladies when she married the handsome fighter pilot Lee “Apollo” Adama (she stole him from Starbuck) and shocked fans with her heartbreaking, sudden suicide (gun shot to the head).
But make no mistake, McClure isn’t Dualla. The South African-born, Vancouver-bred actress, 32, who has relocated to Toronto, has a new role in the Netflix original series, “Hemlock Grove.” Produced by horror king Eli Roth (“Hostel,” “Inglorious Basterds”), McClure plays Dr. Clementine Chasseur, an animal behaviourist (or “fancy dog catcher” as McClure describes her) with a history of self-destruction.
“Hemlock Grove,” based on a novel by Brian McGreevy, revolves around the murder of a young girl in a Pennsylvania steel town. But this isn’t a “Who Killed Rosie Larsen?” scenario (see “The Killing”); one of the murder suspects, a 17-year-old Gypsy kid, is rumoured to be a werewolf. “It’s a story of the monsters inside all of us,” explains McMclure.
All episodes of the Netflix show are due to debut in April.
In a world that seems to spin faster by the day, where social networking allows us to make friends with one another at a click of the mouse, we may be able to see what people have tagged or who they’ve ‘poked,’ but it can sometimes be difficult to really get to know someone and what they’re about. Feeling friendly, cutting to the chase, and learning something about current film and television artists who represent the best of what they do, Buzzine has set a table and would like to introduce you to your Speed Date:
What is your name and where do we know you from?
Kandyse McClure. Most people remember me as Dee on Battlestar Galactica.
Where are you right now? Can we get a picture to prove it?
At the GSUS Industries warehouse and office in Toronto. Sure, as soon as I finish eating this beef patty…..
Things may not have worked out for the TNT pilot in which Summer Glau was set to star, but if there’s a silver lining to the cable channel’s decision to pass on the project, it’s that it likely freed up Summer Glau’s schedule enough to allow her to be available to return to Syfy’s Alphas in Season 2. The former Firefly star isn’t the only great guest star set to appear in Alphas in its upcoming second season. Syfy announced a list of guest stars and offered some information on who’s playing who.
Alphas stars David Strathairn as Dr. Lee Rosen, the leader of a group of people with extraordinary abilities who take on cases that the CIA and other government agencies can’t or won’t handle. In Season 1, Summer Glau guest starred as Skylar Adams, an electronics mastermind with a sizable IQ. She isn’t the only guest star show will return in Season 2. John Pyper-Ferguson will also return for his recurring role as Stanton Parish (a.k.a. the “Perfect Alpha”) and Kathleen Munroe will return to play Dr. Rosen’s empath daughter Dani.
Here’s the full list Syfy released for their new and returning guest stars in Season 2.
Sean Astin plays Roland, an Alpha who has a bizarrely absorptive brain, which allows him to assume the memories of anyone close to him and then replay them like a tape recorder.
C. Thomas Howell portrays Eli Aquino, an intense Alpha with super-speed who is bent on revenge.
Lauren Holly guests as Senator Charlotte Burton, a government official with mysterious ties to a member of the Alphas team.
Summer Glau reprises her season one role as Skylar Adams, an Alpha who possesses a 200+ IQ and is an electronics mastermind.
Steve Byers plays John Bennett, a new member of the tactical team from the U.S. Department of Defense assigned to the Alphas team.
Kandyse McClure guests as Agnes, an attractive but distant Alpha with the ability to see into people’s minds merely by touching them.
John Pyper-Ferguson reprises his recurring role of Stanton Parish, the “Perfect Alpha.”
Kathleen Munroe returns as Dr. Rosen’s daughter, Dani, an empath Alpha who can transfer emotions from herself to others and is secretly a follower of Stanton Parish.
Mahershala Ali reprises his role as Nathan Clay the head of a tactical unit within the U.S. Department of Defense tasked with dealing with rogue Alphas.
Noah Reid portrays Adam Gordon a young man grief-stricken by the death of his young sister, Maggie. However, he becomes convinced she is alive and in need of his help.
It’s not only great news to see Sean Astin on the list of guest stars, but it also seems fitting, as the Lord of the Ring star was recently seen in an episode of Hollywood Treasures, Syfy’s movie memorabilia-focused unscripted series. So he’s no stranger to the network. His ability in Alphas, which allows him to absorb people’s memories and play them back like a tape recorder, sounds really cool.
Also no stranger to Syfy is Kandyse McClure, who played Dualla on Battlestar Galactica. Just the other day, we shared the news that McClure’s been cast in Netflix’s upcoming series Hemlock Grove. Her Alphas ability sounds about as invasive as Astin’s, as she can read people’s minds by touching them.
Alphas Season 2 premieres on Syfy Monday, July 23 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Kandyse McClure has joined the cast of Hemlock Grove for Netflix. McClure will play Dr. Chausser, an animal behaviorist with a PHD with a history of self destruction. Netflix has exclusive rights to the 13-episode series, which tells the tale of a young girl’s murder set in a ravaged Pennsylvania steel town, and whose killer could be any one of several odd and frightening people – or creatures. Based on a novel by Brian McGreevy, Hemlock Grove stars Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgard and is being produced by Gaumont International Television. Eli Roth is credited as both director and exec producer. Also exec producing are McGreevy, Lee Shipman Eric Newman, Mark Verheiden and Michael Connolly. McClure, possibly best known for her role on Battlestar Galactica, was a series regular on NBC’s Persons Unknown and most recently wrapped a lead role in Brett Ratner’s Mother’s Day helmed by Darren Lynn Bousman. She can currently be seen on CBC’s Arctic Air. McClure is repped by Lucas Talent in Canada and managed by Kritzer Levine Wilkins Griffin Nilon.
